The figure selections that are used may represent childhood memories, significant people or events in the client’s life, and important thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that they would like to explore further. Clients will construct scenes with the figures which can be evaluated by a trained therapist allowing room for clarification and interpretation which often provides insight into presenting problems and new awareness. Sandplay therapy can be beneficial for children and adults struggling with identity development, managing relationships and family dynamics, trauma recovery, behavioral management, communication coaching, substance abuse prevention education or any other challenging issues facing young people.
